I am Susan Rose April poet, essayist, and visual artist.

Learn more about Susan

Henry David Thoreau writes, “As I came home through the woods with my string of fish, trailing my pole, it being now quite dark, I caught a glimpse of a woodchuck stealing across my path, and felt a strange thrill of savage delight, and was strongly tempted to seize and devour him raw; not that I was hungry then, except for that wildness which he represented.” Walden, 1854.

This website is that woodchuck. On the surface, it’s a place to learn about my writing, my art, my creative “work.” But more: about wildness. Where is home? What string of fish do I carry? Have I shared enough? How will I be judged?

Advice: Tell about your influences. Your mission. What makes you unique.

Roots: Thoreau, Kerouac, Dickinson, Joan Didion.

Mission: The knife edge between wildness and tame.

Unique cast: As in fly fishing, my secret. But yours to discover.
